James Jeggo seals Hibs transfer as another Australian international becomes Lee Johnson's first January signing

James Jeggo has put pen to paper on an 18-month deal at Hibs as the defensive midfielder becomes Lee Johnson's first January signing.

All eyes are on Sunday's Scottish Cup fourth round tie at Easter Road against city rivals Hearts and they have strengthened with the signing of the experienced 30-year-old ahead of the derby clash. He is another Australian international to further swell the ranks playing in the Scottish Premiership, with 15 caps to his name so far for the Socceroos.

Jeggo joins Hibs from Belgian outfit K.A.S Eupen, where he has made 15 appearances in all competitions this season, and the battler also counts experience in the Australian, Greek, Austrian and Belgian top-flights. Johnson said: "Jimmy is a very good communicator, will help our organisation both with and without the ball, and will aid the solidarity of the team. He’s mobile, a good athlete, and is technically good. You need players like him in a successful team.

“He will bring extra experience to the squad. We look forward to working with him.”

A raft of players have already left Hibs this window, including defensive midfielder Nohan Kenneh and forward Elias Melkersen. They have gone to Ross County and Sparta Rotterdam respectively while Ryan Porteous is poised to leave before the month is done.
