James Garner 'surprised' by Man United transfer decision after Nottingham Forest loan

Former Nottingham Forest loanee James Garner was reportedly 'surprised' to be informed by Manchester United's apparent decision to put him up for transfer.

The 21-year-old returned to Old Trafford earlier this summer following his second loan stint at the City Ground. He had an impressive campaign, contributing to four goals in the Reds' promotion campaign.

However, new United boss Erik ten Hag said to be is willing to let the youngster leave if a £14million price tag is met - a decision that caught Garner by surprise, according to talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook.

"He’s [Garner] been a bit surprised that United are willing to let him go at all, let alone on a permanent transfer," he told GiveMeSport. "But I guess it shows they need to raise funds for this rebuild."

Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur, Leeds United and Southampton are said to be interested, but at this stage are reluctant to pay what United are asking. Garner is yet to make his Premier League debut this season, having been an unused substitute in the opening two league games.

The Red Devils have so far spent £65m this summer transfer window, but Casemiro's £60m arrival from Real Madrid will surpass the £100m figure.
