James Garner stance on Nottingham Forest transfer revealed amid Man Utd decision

James Garner already knows where he wants to be playing football this season after Manchester United decided they are going to sell the former Nottingham Forest loan star.

The Red Devils are putting him up for sale and Steve Cooper is interested in bringing the midfielder back to the City Ground after he impressed on loan last year. He is reportedly being valued at between £15m and £20m.

Forest face competition for the player's signature, though. Tottenham Hotspur are also being linked with the 21-year-old and can offer him the prospect of Champions League football this term.

However, Garner's preference at this moment in time is to stay and fight for a place in the Man United team, according to football reporter Alan Nixon. He has been an unused substitute in the first two Premier League games of the season, both of which United lost to Brighton and Brentford.

The club's decision to sell the Birkenhead native is surprising given United's long-term woes in midfield, but the reports adds that he is willing to wait for his opportunity. However, should Erik ten Hag sign more players in his position then Garner could be forced into seeking a move elsewhere.

Garner played a key role in Forest's successful play-off run last season, contributing 12 goal involvements in 41 appearances as the club returned to the Premier League for the first time in over two decades.
