James Garner responds to Nottingham Forest's Jesse Lingard amid Man Utd transfer talk

Former Nottingham Forest loanee James Garner is among those to respond to the Reds’ first Premier League win of the season, as they overcame West Ham United.

Taiwo Awoniyi’s first half goal was enough to see Steve Cooper’s men come out as 1-0 winners over the Hammers at the City Ground on Sunday afternoon. The game wasn’t without drama though as both teams saw a goal ruled out by VAR, while Dean Henderson denied West Ham captain Declan Rice from the penalty spot in the second half.

Another summer signing in Jesse Lingard provided the assist for Awoniyi’s goal, with his scuffed effort deflecting into the path of the Nigerian. Following the game, he took to social media to send a message to fans.

"Loved my home debut, an amazing win and performance today! Great to give these fans their first premier league win in 23 years! Many more to come!" He wrote.

That gained a response from both Forest fans and players, and among the replies was one of Lingard’s former teammates at Manchester United - Garner. The midfielder has been linked with a move back to the City Ground this summer after a successful loan spell with the club last season.

The 21-year-old replied with two red love hearts. Both Neco Williams and Harry Toffolo responded with fire emojis.

Forest fans have been given a major boost in their hopes of Garner returning to the club this summer, with reports claiming that Manchester United have decided to cash in on the player in the current transfer window. It is said that Erik ten Hag’s side are looking for a fee of around £15 million.

It is however said that Garner himself is keen on staying at Old Trafford and fighting for his place in the team. He has been an unused substitute for the first two Premier League games of the season, both of which United have fallen to defeat.
