James Garner outlines his aims for season amid talk of Man Utd loan recall

James Garner is determined to continue to fire Nottingham Forest’s promotion push.

Steve Cooper’s side are into the Championship top six and fifth round of the FA Cup after just three defeats in 18 matches in all competitions.

They return to action on Saturday when Midland rivals Stoke visit the City Ground.

Manchester United loanee Garner,20, scored his second goal in midweek in the win at Blackburn and is hungry for me.

The midfielder also got an assist in the Reds’ previous game as they dumped holders Leicester out of the FA Cup in a shock 4-1 win.

The ace told Forest TV: “I’ve only scored two this season so hopefully there are many more to come.

“The boys upfront are on fire, I feel like most games we are going to score.

“If we can keep clean sheets we will win games.

“We just need to keep on going and carry on, it doesn’t stop here.

“We are in the top six and it is about staying there now.

“There is no point going in there and dropping back out.

“The performance against Leicester and in midweek , I think that has given us momentum to carry on.

“We need to keep focused and come away with three points.”

Garner was one of a number of players who caught the eye in Nottingham Forest's superb FA Cup fourth round win over holders Leicester on Sunday.

The midfielder, in his second loan stint with Forest, ran the show and put in a commanding display.

He chipped in with an assist for one of the Reds' four goals and caused the Foxes plenty of problems all afternoon.

His performance was that impressive, it even had former Arsenal defender Martin Keown purring about a potential recall by United.

Keown, on commentary duties for the BBC , praised Garner for his class from dead-ball situations.

"Again, set-piece, the ball in from Garner is an absolute beauty, look at the whip on that," said Keown.

"You can’t underestimate the quality that Garner is putting into this box. He’s on loan from Manchester United – they need to be thinking about getting him back there quickly!"

Keown added: "I like the way he’s developing, growing as a player.

"It's his second year here on loan, you can see the development. He’s certainly playing with a lot more confidence right now."

The stats backed up Keown's assessment too, with Garner winning 100 per cent of his tackles and recording a pass accuracy of 83 per cent.
