James Garner makes Man United transfer stance clear with 'perfect' Nottingham Forest comment

Nottingham Forest promotion star James Garner has described his loan spell at the City Ground last season as "perfect".

Garner spent the full season on loan from Manchester United, making 41 league appearances as the Reds won promotion back to the Premier League via the play-offs after a 23-year break. It was his second spell as a Forest player after playing 20 league games the season before.

The 21-year-old has now made it clear he wants to play for Man United - saying it is "obviously my aim" - but is also open to joining a Premier League club on loan, too. That would mean a return to Forest is off the cards as they already have United goalkeeper Dean Henderson on loan at the City Ground - and the rules only allow one borrowed player per club. Of course, it would not stop a permanent deal.

Speaking about his time at Forest last season, Garner told the PA news agency: “I had a really good season last season – full of confidence, full of experience. I played in some big pressure games and I just think it’s a new and improved me.

"It was almost as perfect a loan experience that I could possibly have had. I played pretty much every single game, played well and ended up winning promotion. For me, it’s probably the perfect loan.

“However, for me now because I’ve played two seasons back-to-back, where I’ve been playing games non-stop, I don’t really want to stop that. I want to play week in, week out. That is of course what I want to do."

Making clear his intentions for the future, Garner said: “I want to play for United. Of course that’s obviously my aim. But I feel like if I’m not going to be playing as regularly as I would like to then I’m definitely open to going back on loan to a Premier League side.”
