James Corden was once kidnapped by Carpool Karaoke fans in strange ordeal

James Corden revealed how he was 'kidnapped' by a group of Carpool Karaoke fans when crossing the street in London. The Late Late Show host claims he was "forced" into a car full of teenagers - around the ages of 18 and 19 - who wanted him to join them in singing along to the radio.

Copying his wildly successful show segment Carpool Karaoke, the four teens simply wanted to join in the fun after watching James on their TV screens. Speaking to The Wrap, he said: "I was crossing the street in London and there were these four kids. They were like 18, 19.

"They sort of forced me to get in the car. They all had their camera phones out and we were just singing along to the radio. I was like, 'Am I being kidnapped?'"

Thankfully, James took it all in good fun and the teens didn't have any malicious intent.

Celebrities Harry Styles, Adele, Lady Gaga, Sia Justin Bieber and Michelle Obama have all featured on Carpool Karaoke, with James admitting he has been blown away by its success.

When appearing on First We Feast's Hot Ones earlier this month, James compared Carpool Karaoke to the YouTube series where celebrities eat hot wings while being interviewed by host Sean Evans.

He said: "People open up in an environment where they're feeling uncomfortable. It's very difficult to keep your guard up when you're [eating hot chicken wings] and you're sharing something together.

"I think this would be very, very different if you sat there and just got the guests to eat and you didn't. There's camaraderie in it that I can already feel."

"There's something about taking someone and placing them completely on their own in an environment that is so recognisable to us.

"We sing our lungs out in the car along to the radio and seeing someone doing something in the very same way that we do I think is quite humanising."

James announced he will be stepping down from the Late Late Show next summer to spend more time with his wife, Julia, and sons Max, 11, and Carey, eight, and four-year-old daughter Charlotte.

He told The Times : "We had to cancel last year's summer holiday [because of work clashes] and when I told Max, he looked so sad, and I had this sudden revelation of the maths: we've only got six more summers with the kids, before they start wanting to go off with their mates, six if we're lucky.

"I knew I just couldn't do that again. So that's why I quit."

Mo Gilligan is reportedly the number one contender to replace James on the Late Late Show - however a new host is yet to be confirmed.
