Just weeks after captivating Britain alongside Ruth Jones in the emotional finale of Gavin and Stacey, James Corden has surprised fans with an unexpected career move.
Instead of returning to the glitz of Hollywood, the actor has reportedly taken on a much quirkier role—secretly performing in the mysterious West End phenomenon You Me Bum Bum Train.
This immersive, avant-garde production is shrouded in secrecy, with both its central London location and the show's unique contents kept tightly under wraps to ensure audiences are caught completely off guard.
Known for its boundary-pushing experiences, the show has even triggered panic attacks in some audience members, adding to its reputation as one of the most daring performances around.
The production relies entirely on volunteers, and a roster of A-list stars has previously lent their talents for free—Corden being the latest to join its ranks.
According to reports, Corden was first captivated by the show during its last run eight years ago and had been eager to get involved ever since.
An insider told The Sun: “James had been to see the show eight years ago when it was in London before so when he saw it was back he wanted to take in the madness himself.
“All actors in the play volunteer for free - regardless if you're an A-lister or have done little more than attended drama class at school.
“The whole thing is shrouded in secrecy and no one is meant to talk about what goes on but some of the biggest names in the world have taken part. Guests are said to have been shocked when confronted with James in one of the roles, but the rules of the show meant they couldn't address his appearance.”
The Standard has contacted James Corden’s rep for comment.
The news comes after Corden shared a cryptic post following reports that David Beckham helped defuse a fallout with Prince Harry.
Prince Harry, 40, reportedly made a “cruel comment” about Corden’s appearance during a night out in London in December 2011, the Mail claimed on Sunday.
Corden, 46, was “furious” about the jibe and Beckham, 49, then England’s football captain, reportedly had to play peacemaker to prevent the situation from escalating.
Hours after the report was published, Corden shared a post about “falling with nothing to hold onto.”
The Gavin And Stacey star posted the message from British illustrator Charlie Mackesy on Instagram with the caption: “We all need this from Charlie Mackesy every once in a while [love heart emoji].”
The message read: “Once in a while, out of the blue, your heart spins, and it can feel like you're falling with nothing to hold onto. But you are not the storm, and it will pass. x”.
Corden’s fans flooded the comments with their support for the late-night chat show host.
“Hope you're ok dude,” one wrote, while another penned, “Sending love,” and a third chimed in: “Hope you're OK James...”.
The bust-up reportedly led to a “bromance” between Corden and Harry.
Harry even appeared on Corden’s Late Late Show in 2021 and they appeared calm and relaxed as they rapped the Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme.
