James Corden screams as Met Gala invitation 'burns' in hilarious Late Late Show moment

James Corden might had a sleepless night before this year's Met Gala - fearing that a hilarious skit from The Late Late Show might come true.

The first Monday in May is where fashion's elite circle gather in New York for a celebration of style and decadence.

The event has been a staple of the A-list fashion calendar since 2005 - with Vogue supremo Anna Wintour leading the Gala with a 'militant' schedule.

It's the hottest ticket in town, but James saw his invitation turn to ashes during a funny sketch from his final ever The Late Late Show episode.

In one of the show's final segments, Corden was awoken in the middle of the night by current and past late-night talk show hosts.

The star-studded line-up included Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers, Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, and David Letterman.

"You can’t just leave a talk show," said Meyers, as they all warned him of divulging secrets only late-night hosts know, including that you don’t have to watch everything your guests have been in and the classic late-night-host-fake-laugh.

They told him that after his late-night career, he’ll have to grow a beard – a nod at Letterman – and go on The Masked Singer.

They also decided they all wanted to take Corden’s famous Carpool Karaoke segment, but nothing else.

After Corden refused to give in to their demands, they punished him in the most cruel way possible – burning his Met Gala invitation while laughing maniacally.

"You leave us no choice. We didn’t want to do this, but we’re gonna have to revoke your invitation to the Met Gala," said Kimmel.

"Not fashion’s biggest night!" Corden exclaimed, "Anything but the Met, please!"

Luckily, the sketch ended with Corden realizing it was only a nightmare - and six months later appeared on The Masked Singer with Trevor Noah.

After eight years as host of The Late Late Show, Corden stepped down last week with singer Harry Styles and actor Will Ferrell as his final guests.

Popular segments on his show included the famous 'Carpool Karaoke' which has starred singers like Adele, Migos, Bad Bunny, and more.

Corden’s show was also known for its 'Spill Your Guts' recurring segment where guests and Corden either answer scandalous questions or eat something typically unsavoury like bull penis or a salmon smoothie.

Recently it was reported that CBS couldn’t afford to keep the show running. Now Corden plans to return to London with his wife, Julia Carey, and three kids Max, Carey, and Charlotte.

But for all fans of Corden worried that the comedian won't be attending the Met Gala, don’t panic just yet, as he was spotted at Anna Wintour's pre-Met Gala party last night with his wife.
