James Corden’s air date for his final ever episode presenting The Late Late Show has been revealed.
Last year, it was announced the 44-year-old was quitting the CBS show to spend more time with his young family.
And now his final appearance has been unveiled with James’ swansong The Last Last Late Late Show primetime special airing on Thursday, April 27 at 10pm followed by the final episode of his hit show at 12.37am.
He’ll reportedly be joined by Tom Cruise for a musical performance during The Lion King at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood, it has been claimed.
James’ replacement on the show has been the subject of much speculation, but it was recently reported that CBS will scrap the show entirely when the Brit wraps his final episode in the spring.
Deadline reported earlier this month that CBS will ditch the show and instead reboot the Comedy Central panel game show Midnight to take the prime slot.
While CBS have not confirmed the news, Deadline reports that the new show will likely be produced by Stephen Colbert, who hosts The Late Show, which airs in the hour just before Corden's slot.
The Late Late Show first aired in 1995 with host Tom Snyder. Hosts Craig Kilborn and Craig Ferguson were followed by the surprise hire of Corden, a British comedy figure almost entirely unknown to a US audience before taking over the role.
He quickly endeared himself to viewers with the introduction of popular segments like Carpool Karaoke and Crosswalk the Musical.
Adele's appearance in Carpool Karaoke has garnered 260 million views on YouTube. Musical stars appearing in the segment include Justin Bieber, Billie Eilish, Ed Sheeran and One Direction .
Corden has hosted the show since 2015 and in 2016 won the Critics' Choice Award for Best Talk Show. The show has also been nominated for several Emmys.
James is father to son Max, 11, daughter Carey, eight, and five-year-old Charlotte.
James previously revealed how a conversations with his son Max caused him to decide to leave The Late Late Show.
Gavin and Stacey writer James announced his decision to leave the show as the lead presenter in April last year.
He said at the time: " When I started this journey it was always going to be just that, it was going to be a journey, an adventure.
"I never saw it as my final destination," he explained.
James has since explained that a conversation with his son caused him to re-think his career choices.
Sitting down with actress Drew Barrymore on The Drew Barrymore Show, he recalled a conversation with his son as he was asked when he knew it was time to walk away.
"Look it's not easy to walk away from something that is so..." James emotionally said. "I'll never work in a better environment than the one I work in now, nothing about leaving the show is to do with not enjoying it, I love it."
He added: "But the truth is, it became a very easy decision because I always knew it was an adventure and I never, ever considered it to be the final destination.
"And when I was shooting the show Mammals, that you are so lovely about, one day I was filming on a Sunday and I came downstairs – it was about 6am – and my son, who was about 10 at the time, was sat on the stairs and he said: 'Are you working today?'
"And he said: 'But it's Sunday," and I said: 'I know buddy, but the schedule is so all over place, we only have a tiny amount of time before we have to go back and do the show' and his face just kind of dropped.
"And I got in the car and I called my wife Jules and I said: 'I've realised best case scenario, we have six more summers where Max is like even remotely wants to be around us and I cannot waste another one."
He added: "So really the choice was, 'well if I want to do this other work that cannot be at the expense of our children, our family."
James then confessed: "I will be a mess on that last show, I will cry my eyes out but I will know in my core but the best thing for me and the best thing for us as a family is to put down some roots in London and it feels absolutely right in every single way."
