James Corden's dig at Kanye West after his antics cost show $45K and weird apology gift

James Corden and Kanye West finally produced a Carpool Karaoke segment after years of trying - but the rapper's antics ended up costing The Late Late Show a staggering $45,000. The Gavin & Stacey star has managed to get some incredibly famous faces in the car with him, including Lady Gaga and Madonna.

Kanye, who is now being dropped by brands after his sickening comments about Jewish people, cancelled on James a whopping three times, including once when he was pratically outside his house in the car with a camera crew. During a 2018 game of 'Spill Your Guts Or Fill your Guts', which sees Corden and his guest have to choose between eating something unpleasant or answering a question, James revealed all.

When it came to James' turn, his oppoent, Kris Jenner, asked him why her then son-in-law hadn't yet appeared on the hugely popular Carpool Karaoke.

Instead of choosing the 1,000 year old egg, the host chose to answer the question, telling Kris: "We've tried! He's cancelled twice! Maybe even three times."

The first time that Kanye cancelled was a few days after they had made an agreement, then the second happened when James was driving up his guest's road and he was forced to turn around.

"I was in a car, and by the time the call finished, I sat outside his house and they were like, 'He’s not in the zone for it right now. We’ll do it another time'," James explained.

To make up for the cancellation, the host said Kanye sent him a pricey gift as a way of saying sorry.

"He sent me these incredible flowers in a cube… and he sent me a pair of Yeezys," revealed James. "And people were like, 'Whoa, they're so expensive.'

"And I was like, 'Yeah, they cost my show $45,000.'"

Speaking in another interview, James revealed more details of the flowers, saying it was about three dozen white roses arranged in the shape of a cube.

But it didn't put the host off trying to get Kanye to do the singing segment, as he claimed he would still love to get the controversial figure on his show.

"He's my dream," he added. "He knows that. He's my absolute dream. And we sit and wait."

Then Kanye text James saying he wanted to do Carpool Karaoke in a way that had never been done before - with a whole choir on a bus or a truck in LA.

"Well that's difficult, because we need to get a truck and permits. The choir I think is 150 people," Corden said on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in 2019.

"(But) we set about trying to make it happen. And then they're like, Monday's not going to happen, Wednesday."

To no one at The Late Late Show's surprise, they got an email from Kanye's camp saying it wasn't going to happen on the Wednesday.

But then the rapper boldy suggested doing it in an airplane - and his team secured one for the segment to take place.

James said: "And we go, 'OK, great. Brilliant. Why not? Let’s do it on a spaceship?'” Corden said of West’s last-minute request. “To his credit, he and his team get the plane."

The pair appeared with West’s Sunday Service choir to talk about religion and perform various songs, including 'Jesus Walks'.

"Being on that plane, surrounded by that choir, sitting with him," James added.

"I'll never, ever forget what that choir sounded like on that airplane. It was an astonishing thing and I really thought, this is a once in a lifetime thing that I'll never ever forget. It was an incredible moment."
