James Corden has spoken out about the real reason he quit his job hosting The Late Late Show.
The comedian admitted that he felt he had to step away from the job after he realised it was stealing valuable time he wanted to spend with his children.
James, 44, talked in a new interview about how being forced to miss a family holiday made him realise he had to change his priorities before it was too late.
The Gavin & Stacey star opened up in the chat about how he didn't feel he could miss any more valuable time with his kids, and wife, Jules, 46.
He said to The Times : "We had to cancel last year's summer holiday [because of work clashes] and when I told Max, he looked so sad, and I had this sudden revelation of the maths: we've only got six more summers with the kids, before they start wanting to go off with their mates, six if we're lucky.
"I knew I just couldn't do that again. So that's why I quit."
James and TV producer Jules share three children together - sons Max, 11, and Carey, eight, and four-year-old daughter Charlotte.
Elsewhere in the chat James confessed that he has no idea what is next for him as he gears up for his return to the UK after reaching the "high point" of his career.
Having already found himself at the pinnacle of fame in high profile roles with his acting career and his The Late Late Show hosting gig James is now unsure where to go next.
He explained: : “I’ve had to make peace with the fact that Gavin & Stacey, One Man, Two Guv’nors, History Boys, Late Late Show, McCartney – that might just be the high point of it all.
“I genuinely do not know what I’m going to do next. I have something I’m writing – two things I’m writing – but I’m not in them. Who knows if they’ll get made?”
James recently came under fire in the US after British New York restauranteur Keith McNally - who owns lavish NY eatery Balthazar - lashed out at him in a scathing Instagram post.
The businessman accused James of poor conduct towards his staff and branded him "a tiny cretin of a man."
Keith shared details of two alleged incidents where James had supposedly berated his staff for making mistakes.
He wrote: "James Corden is a Hugely gifted comedian, but a tiny Cretin of a man. And the most abusive customer to my Balthazar servers since the restaurant opened 25 years ago."
Keith then banned him from his premises adding: "I don't often 86 a customer, to today I 86'd Corden. It did not make me laugh."
Keith accused James of demanding free drinks when he found a hair in his food so he didn't leave a bad review on yelp, and claimed that on a second occasion James had shouted at staff after his wife was served an egg yolk omelette that had egg whites in - something which James later confirmed she is allergic to.
The comedian initially denied any wrongdoing, however, James has since apologised for his behaviour on The Late Late Show, leading to Keith lifting his ban.
