James Corden opens up on 'emotional' return to UK as he bids farewell to US

James Corden admits his return to the UK will be "emotional" as he bids farewell to Los Angeles.

The TV star appeared on Good Morning Britain today to chat about his new series, where he plays a chef. He is set to bid farewell to the United States as he wraps his Late Late Show and returns to the UK with his family.

During a chat with entertainment editor Richard Arnold, he explained his "pride" at his programme stateside but says the UK will always be his home. He heaped praise on his home country for the "things it's given the world" as he shared his excitement to be back.

Speaking before the news of the restaurant ban came out, he said: "It's going to be really emotional. It's going to be a real thing to draw it to a close but I'm so proud of it. I'm so proud of what I've done.

"I love where we live, I love being in Los Angeles. I love it but we always knew it would be an adventure and not a final destination. This place, this little island, is amazing. The stuff it's created, the things it's given the world. I've always been very proud to call it home."

James also opened up about his strong relationship with his wife, joking she must think it's a "huge mistake" that they married.

"I absolutely knew minute one that I couldn't do any better than this. When I met Jules, I was like it's a miracle every day. She must just look at me and think, 'What did I do. This was a huge mistake,'" he added of his romance with wife Julia.

James hit the headlines when he was briefly banned by the owner of restaurant Balthazar, amid allegations he "yelled" at a waiter. He later admitted he was "ungracious" and said it was never his "intention" to upset staff.

"Because I didn't shout or scream, I didn't get up out of my seat, I didn't call anyone names or use derogatory language, I've been walking around thinking that I haven't done anything wrong," he said, "But the truth is I have made a rude, rude comment. And it was wrong. It was an unnecessary comment, it was ungracious to the server.

"[I told him] how upset I was that anybody was hurt by anything that I had done and anything that I had said and we had a good talk. He appreciated the call. I was happy that we got to clear the air. And I felt like we dealt with it privately but by this point, the story was out there and more people were upset. I get it. I totally understand."
