James Corden has opened up about his “emotional” return to the UK, ahead of his move back across the pond from Los Angeles.

The Late Late Show host, 44, is set to bid farewell to the United States and his successful eight-year stint on the chat show as he returns to his homeland with wife Julia Carey and their three children.

Corden spoke about his impending return home as he appeared on Good Morning Britain.

The host also shared his “pride” over his programme in the US as he promoted his new project, a TV series where he plays a chef, on the show.

Speaking to entertainment editor Richard Arnold, Corden said: “It’s going to be really emotional. It’s going to be a real thing to draw it to a close but I’m so proud of it. I’m so proud of what I’ve done.

"I love where we live, I love being in Los Angeles. I love it but we always knew it would be an adventure and not a final destination. This place, this little island, is amazing.

“The stuff it’s created, the things it’s given the world. I’ve always been very proud to call it home."

Corden’s interview was recorded prior to the news of his recent restaurant ban.

The chat show host made headlines earlier this month after he was briefly banned from the restaurant Balthazar in New York City, by the owner, as he was accused of having “yelled” at a waiter and being generally rude to staff.

Corden later addressed the allegations on his show, as he insisted it “was never my intention to upset staff”.

He said: “Because I didn’t shout or scream, I didn’t get up out of my seat, I didn’t call anyone names or use derogatory language, I’ve been walking around thinking that I haven’t done anything wrong.

“But the truth is I have made a rude, rude comment. And it was wrong. It was an unnecessary comment, it was ungracious to the server. [I told him] how upset I was that anybody was hurt by anything that I had done and anything that I had said and we had a good talk. He appreciated the call.

“I was happy that we got to clear the air. And I felt like we dealt with it privately but, by this point, the story was out there and more people were upset. I get it. I totally understand.”
