James Corden makes Will Smith dig as he wades in on Chris Rock 'slap' drama

James Corden has waded in on the scandal surrounding Will Smith hitting Chris Rock at the Oscars with a dig against the actor during his Late Late Show in America., saying he 'couldn't take a joke.'

Jaws dropped across the world on Sunday night when Best Actor nominee Will got out of his seat and walked up to the stage metres away to slap presenter Chris across the face. The moment that appeared to spark Will's unexpected rage was when comedian Chris, on stage to present the documentary feature Oscar, looked at Will's wife Jada and remarked: "Jada, can't wait for G.I. Jane 2, " in reference to her having a shaved head.

Jada actually suffers from alopecia and, after striking Chris, Will returned to his seat and shouted: "Keep my wife's name out of your f****** mouth." The truly shocking moment continues to make headlines across the globe and, offering his thoughts, talk show host James, also famous for playing Smithy in Gavin & Stacey, said: "I'll say this, Will Smith can't take a joke, Chris Rock can take a punch. A steel jaw. Unbelievable."

James' comment comes after Will, who went onto win Best Actor for King Richard, publicly apologised to Chris. The 53-year-old wrote: "I would like to publicly apologise to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.

"I would also like to apologise to the Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees and everyone watching around the world. I would like to apologise to the Williams Family and my King Richard Family. I deeply regret that my behaviour has stained what has been an otherwise gorgeous journey for all of us."

Jade has also now seemingly addressed the controversy, as she took to Instagram on Tuesday to post a quote, which read: "This is a season for healing and I'm here for it."
