James Corden told Adele he 'unsafe' in six hour chat which inspired her to write song

James Corden once told Adele he felt 'unsafe' in a candid chat with the singer, which inspired her to write a song.

During the last-ever Carpool Karaoke with his best pal Adele, the duo recalled a time when Cordon confided in Adele in 2020.

The pair didn't go into detail about what they discussed, only saying James' upset was over "work stuff and the internet".

And now, during his Carpool Karaoke with Adele, he opened up about feeling "down".

Adele had a six-hour conversation with her pal and she admitted it made her feel 'unsafe' knowing he felt 'unsafe'.

On the way home from a holiday they went on together, Adele noticed he "seemed down".

"I was like, 'what's wrong?' You just seemed down, and you just let it all out to me and you didn't feel strong and we were having a six-hour conversation about it the whole way home," she said while driving the car.

A teary-eyed James replied: "It was work stuff... and the internet... All those things."

Adele continued: "But it got me thinking. I felt so unsafe with you feeling unsafe because you've always been [there for me]. You have. Since I was 21.

"I went to the studio a couple of weeks later, and I wrote [I Drink Wine] and I sang it into my phone and I sent it to you and I do remember you saying, 'That's exactly how I was feeling'."

James added: "It was everything that I was feeling that day. I was floored by how you'd managed to take everything that I was feeling myself, and... life, and just put it in a verse."

The presenter announced last April that he'd be leaving the Late Late show after hosting it since 2015. CBS reportedly made "desperate" attempts to keep him on.

He told audiences: "I never saw it as my final destination, and I never want this show to overstay its welcome, I love making it and I really think in a year from now that will be a good time to move on and see what's out there."

James' tenure on the show will come to an end on the 27th of April and will see the return of iconic guests including the Kardashian family and Tom Cruise
