James Comer gives US Border Patrol hard deadline to hand over any communications with Kamala Harris since 2021

WASHINGTON, DC - MAY 14: U.S. Rep. James Comer (R-KY) walks on the House side of the U.S. Capitol on May 14, 2024 in Washington, DC. This week, House GOP leadership is expected to introduce a bill that will force lawmakers to take a position on the Biden administration's weapons pause to Israel. President Joe Biden gave Vice President Kamala Harris the task of addressing the "root causes" of migration, namely economic hardships and insecurity leading people to leave their countries. This role is now being used by Republicans during the presidential campaign to claim she has failed to stem migratory flows to the country, dubbing her a "border czar."

In this context, House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer has required the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to hand over any and all communications and documents with Harris' executive office in relation to the southwest border.

"The Committee requests documents and communications to understand Vice President Harris's role in the worst border crisis in American history," Comer wrote.

The CBP is required to share everything from January 20,2021 to the present day. The deadline to provide the documentation and communications is set for August 20, 2024.

"It is unclear what actions, if any, Vice President Harris has taken to fix the border crisis. Rather, she has claimed that '[w]e have a secure border in that that is a priority for any nation.' The Committee seeks to understand whether Vice President Harris has 'done anything' to address the worst border crisis in American history," Comer said.

It's not the first measure in the House related to this. In late July, House Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik introduced a resolution to condemn Vice President Kamala Harris role in immigration enforcement.

Stefanik, who is also calling Harris the "Border Czar," said in a statement that her "failed leadership led to the most catastrophic open border crisis in history." "Biden's open border czar Kamala Harris, and every elected Democrat is responsible for this border crisis and they must all be held accountable for their role in jeopardizing our national security and turning every community into a border community," the statement adds.

It goes on to say that "millions of illegals have poured into our country because of the Biden-Harris Administration's unconstitutional, illegal executive actions," which, "wiped away" former President Donald Trump's "effective border security policies which created the most secure border in modern history."

"Kamala Harris failed as Border czar leading to violent crimes, rapes, and murders of innocent Americans. We will hold her and Far Left Democrats accountable," the message concludes.
