James Bulger's mum speaks out as grave targeted by thieves yet again

Vile yobs have stolen a memorial statue from the grave of murdered toddler James Bulger for the second time in recent months.

Two-year-old James was murdered by Jon Venables and Robert Thompson, both aged 10, in Liverpool in 1993. His killers were convicted of murder but released in 2001, aged 18.

The ECHO previously reported that on June 22, James' mum Denise Fergus, was told by her husband, Stuart, that a sleeping angel statue from her son's grave was stolen. Her husband was at the grave to give it a clean and put down some new flowers when he noticed it was not there.

The family managed to retrieve the cherub, but devastatingly, thieves took the memorial item once again last week, the Mirror reports. Denise, 53, said: "To see this happen once more is heartbreaking. I’m furious that someone would stoop this low. It’s utterly disgraceful. Do these criminals not know how important these places are for loved ones like us?"

James is buried in Kirkdale Cemetery. A parliamentary debate on whether a public inquiry should be held into his murder is due to take place later this year.

Denise posted on Facebook: "Once again I'm asking for all my Facebook friends to help me. Sorry to be a pain but the sleeping angel at James's resting place has once again been taken!

"I'm fuming that this is the second time now! It has to be the same person who took it the first time as well, if anyone sees this please get in touch I really don't know why they feel the need to steal from anyone's resting place. They simply don't know the pain they cause! These are special ornaments that are put down for our loved ones."

Earlier this year, Denise, who has been calling for an inquiry, met Justice Secretary Dominic Raab. And days later it was announced a parliamentary debate would take place.
