JAMES BROWN savoured the first goal of his career as he inspired St Johnstone to a shock victory over Rangers.
The defender produced a wonderful strike to open the scoring at McDiarmid Park before Nicky Clark doubled the advantage after the break.
A James Tavernier effort proved meaningless for Rangers as Callum Davidson's side secured a win that lifts them up to fifth place in the Premiership standings.
Brown's stunning long-range drive was quite the way to open his account and the right-back was thrilled to play his part in remarkable fashion.
Brown said: "It’s hard to say I knew what I was doing. I just got a touch out of my feet and smashed it. Lucky enough it flew into the top corner.
"Obviously it gave us a nice lead going into half time so I am obviously delighted with it and happy it contributed to a win.
"I know I have got a bit stick in the dressing room afterwards. It is something I need to add t my game, obviously playing out a wing back, goals and assists.
"It is just nice to do it today on the stage that it was and give us a good platform going into half time.
"Well, it is the only one of my career! It might take some beating. I knew it was in as soon as it left my foot.
"Sometimes you just know, I caught it pure and I could not feel anything as it left my foot and it flew into the top corner. It was a lovely feeling. I just need to add that to my game.
"God knows [when my last goal was]. You have put me on the spot. It must have been youth football, ages ago.
"Terrible, I know. But if you are going to score one that is probably the game to do it in."
