James Bond star Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz apply to chop back trees behind Camden home

James Bond star Daniel Craig and his Oscar-winning wife, actor Rachel Weisz, have launched plans to chop back trees in their rear garden - in an apparent bid to avoid another dispute with neighbours.

The Hollywood couple were caught in a row five years ago over a giant plane tree growing behind their £6 million townhouse in Camden, after a neighbour claimed it was damaging his property.

Alasdair Nisbet said the enormous 50 metre-high tree was causing cracks to his Victorian home, and applied to Camden Council to have it chopped down.

Other residents reacted angrily to the suggestion, claiming that to remove it would be “upsetting and unnecessary”.

But the dispute was resolved and the tree eventually saved when stars Craig and Weisz, who have been married for 11 years, submitted a counter application to the council, offering to trim the tree instead.

Camden Council issued a Tree Protection Order for the plane, saying it contributed to the character of the area, and said cracks made to the neighbouring property were more likely caused by a sewer pipe.

Craig, 48, and wife Rachel Weisz, 46, have now submitted a fresh application to cut back the tree, along with another plane tree and pear tree that has become covered in ivy and rose.

The application, made on their behalf by planning agent Stephanie Radziwillowicz, says the plane trees are “in need of maintenance to slow root expansion and improve light”. It seeks to reduce the trees by 2.4m all round, “to previous reduction points”.

It adds that the pear tree “has outgrown its location”, and suggests cutting it back by about one metre, as well as pruning the rose and removing as much ivy as possible.

No official comments have been made by members of the public.

Camden Council’s planning department is due to make a decision on the application in due course.

Daniel Craig’s representatives have been approached by the Standard for comment.
