James Bond producers fume over Daniel Craig's lack of award nominations for final film

James Bond producers have expressed their upset in Daniel Craig's lack of award nominations for his last appearance as 007.

Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson were stunned after Daniel, 54, didn't get a single nod for his performance in No Time To Die.

Michael, 80, told The Times: "You're always happy to get nominated, but Daniel not getting any nods is really amazing to me."

Despite Daniel not landing a nomination, the film itself has five BAFTA nominations - Outstanding British Film, Special Visual Effects, Editing, Cinematography and Sound.

The team behind the movie will wait to find out if they've been lucky at next week's ceremony.

The producers also spoke about their difficult decision to find a new Bond to replace Daniel, who has played the charismatic agent for 16 years.

Barbara, 61, said: "The thing is, when you cast James Bond you're not just casting one movie. You're making a decision that you're going to have live with for at least a decade.'

She added that their job casting Daniel was slightly easier as they had already decided to do the reboot followed by five interconnected films.

But she said this time they will have to cast a new Bond as well as set a theme for the next set of movies.

Bridgerton's Rege-Jean Page, James Norton and Idris Elba have been bookies' favourites in the speculation over the next 007.

Amazon is set to accuire MGM Studios in a $8.5billion deal and is hoping to make spin-offs from the film franchise.

In Decemeber an Amazon spokesperson said the deal wasn't finalised and the two companies remain separate.

Barbara and Michael both argue that Bond films belong on the big screen - not on a streaming site.

Barbara said spin-off projects made "no sense" to her as Bond is the centre of the franchise's universe.

Daniel backed the producers on the cinema argument, he told The Sun: "One of the greatest things that's happened is we got this movie into the cinema, that's where Bond movies should be.

"They don't look so good on a phone. They look great on an Imax screen."

In September he stressed the value of cinema, and said No Time To Die would "boost" the industry.

Speaking of the 25th film in the franchise, he said: "Cinema is here to stay as far as I'm concered and if we can help in some way, I'll be very happy".

His comments came after it was reported that MGM had been in talks with Netflix and Apple about releasing the latest Bond film on a streaming site after the release was postponed due to Covid.

Barbara told PA at the time: "Not for us. Fortunately, we have great partners with MGM and they stuck with us, and the pressure was tremendous on them, obviously.

"But I think we've learned many things during this 18-month period and certainly one of them is the sense of community, that we need people, we're social creatures, and we need each other.

"I think there's no better place to come together than the cinema. And we are hoping this is going to be a joyful return for people to come back with their friends and their families to see the film and to again celebrate, after a very long and difficult period."

Daniel is set to return to the stage this year as Macbeth in a revival of William Shakespeare's play.
