Singer James Blunt has promised to quit music altogether if his new album reaches the number one spot.
The UK singer tweeted: “I do solemnly swear that if my new album (out tomorrow) goes to Number 1, I will never write, record or sing another song for as long as I shall live.”
He added a follow-up tweet and tagged a popular “God” parody account: “So help me out, @TheTweetof God.”

The album, The Stars Beneath My Feet (2004-2021) is a collection of the singer’s greatest hits.
Blunt has also shared that his new album drops November 19th, the same day as Adele’s highly anticipated release.
Watch how fast that date changes the moment she realises my album is out the same day. https://t.co/p3Q5KnjuuW

Blunt is perhaps best known for his 2005 international hit singles, “You’re Beautiful” and “Goodbye My Lover.” Despite his reputation as a “one-hit wonder,” the singer has released six albums and has embarked on seven world tours. In 2016, Blunt was awarded an Honorary Doctorate for Music by the University of Bristol.

Although the singer forbid Weird Al Yankovich from commercially releasing a parody of “You’re Beautiful” titled “You’re Pitiful” back in 2006, it seems the singer has lightened up over the years. Blunt now regularly uses his Twitter account to humorously reply to hateful comments and even take digs at himself. In 2020, Constable published a compilation of his tweets in a book titled How To Be A Complete and Utter Blunt: Diary of a Reluctant Social Media Sensation.[

Blunt’s new album could very well snag the number one spot in the “Singer/Songwriter” category, but is unlikely to beat out Adele on the pop charts.
