Jameela Jamil has hit back at critics of Meghan Markle, hailing her relationship with husband Prince Harry and describing the Duchess of Sussex as “very normal, kind and civilised”.

The presenter and actress, 36, made her remarks while a guest on the ninth episode of Meghan’s podcast released on Tuesday, titled The Audacity of the Activist with Jameela Jamil and Shohreh Aghdashloo.

During their chat, the She-Hulk star compared her relationship with husband James Blake to the one Meghan has with Harry, saying: ‘[James] is just an incredible human, an incredible friend and I don’t think I could have withstood all this without him. I know you have a very similar dynamic with Harry. It is a really sweet dynamic of you two.”

Jamil forged a friendship with Meghan after being named one of her 15 Forces For Change in the Duchess’s September 2019 guest-edited Vogue issue.

Reflecting in the episode on how her husband supported her, Jamil said: “Maybe he just likes that I am completely myself and I think he really enjoys the fact that I’m not repressed in any way.

“Therefore, I don’t have anywhere that I need to kind of like let off that steam.

“I don’t hold in any toxicity. I get everything off my chest, so, you know, mixed results.”

She continued: “He’s incredibly supportive of me and he’s been a big encourager of me to learn how to, you know, fight back and speak my mind and understand my worth and he’s just a great ally.

Jamil also claimed that she had “fought back on behalf of Meghan,” adding: “I was so outraged. With the twisting of this, very normal, very kind, very civilised woman that demonisation. It just shows how afraid they are of you.”

Seemingly believing that her comments wouldn’t make the final edit, she added: “I’m sure maybe you can’t keep this in or whatever, but the treatment of you and, I’m so sorry, you’ve had to withstand, it has re-highlighted for us there is intense unkindness and bigotry and misogyny of our media.

“I think and I hope and I feel faith that that tides are changing because so many of us are fighting back.”

Elsewhere in the podcast, Meghan and her guests discussed why activism and “big ideas” from women are “often deemed audacious” and used against them to make them “feel small” with the Duchess at one point claiming that women get “no credit and all the blame”.
