Jameela Jamil ditches red carpet glamour to wear pyjamas for virtual Emmys ceremony

Jameela Jamil decided to go for a laidback look at the 72nd Emmy Awards, and plumped for a pair of pyjamas.

The 34-year-old joined the awards show, that had become virtual during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, from the comfort of her own home.

The actor, who plays Tahani in The Good Place (which was up for seven awards that night), decided to eschew the awards’ usual glamorous get-ups and snuggle up in a pair of white PJs, paired with a sequin dressing gown.

Sharing a picture as she lounged on her sofa on Instagram, Jamil said: “Wearing PJ's to the 72nd Emmy awards (from my house) is my kind of vibes.

“Excited to see if we win any of the seven awards we have been nominated for!

“I still did my make-up and wore a sequin dressing gown, because... It's what Tahani would have wanted. And this is her day, not mine.”

Jameela Jamil was backing The Good Place (NBC)

While existential comedy The Good Place, which concluded earlier this year, was critically acclaimed, the show lost out to Schitt’s Creek on the big night

Schitt’s Creek, which follows a once wealthy family as they make do with a more meagre life, made history as the first comedy or drama to sweep every single category it was nominated for.

Jamil was not the only star keen to make a statement with her outfit.

Watchmen star Regina King wore a t-shirt demanding justice for Breonna Taylor (American Broadcasting Companies,)

Regina King, who won the award for Best Actress in a Limited Series for her stunning performance in Watchmen, wore a T-shirt featuring the face of Breonna Taylor, who was shot dead in her home by police in March.

King used her acceptance speech to remind viewers of the importance of voting in the upcoming presidential race, noting that it would be “remiss not to” mention the election and urging them to “have a voting plan.”
