Jamaica scraps the last of its Covid travel rules for Brits and ends face mask mandate

Brits heading on holidays to Jamaica will no longer be required to meet any Covid entry requirements as the country has just scrapped the last of its travel rules.

The Caribbean hotspot has announced that all international visitors heading to Jamaica will no longer need a negative PCR test result taken within 72 hours before departure.

It comes after the island recently scrapped travel-related quarantine rules, as well as a requirement for visitors to get pre-approval to be able to enter the country.

It means that Jamaica joins a line-up of countries without any Covid travel rules for tourists, alongside the likes of Mexico and Costa Rica.

However, travellers could be tested for Covid on arrival if they show symptoms or have been expose to someone who has tested positive. The UK Foreign Office explains: "All travellers arriving in Jamaica may still be tested for COVID-19 if assessed as high-risk as a result of exhibiting symptoms, exposure to people who have tested positive, belonging to a high-risk group or other risk factors. Travellers may be screened for symptoms at the airport."

The island is also relaxing local restrictions, including removing a requirement to wear masks in enclosed public spaces.

Jamaica's Minister of Tourism, Hon. Edmund Bartlett, said in a statement: "Eliminating mask mandates and the need for travellers to present a negative COVID test result are important strides toward our continued gradual relaxation of travel protocols as the spread of COVID-19 keeps declining.

"We are optimistic that these simpler requirements will serve to increase the appeal of Jamaica as a premier destination and keep us moving along the road to a stronger recovery for both the tourism sector and the nation’s economy as a whole."

With glorious sunshine, lush green scenery and those picture-perfect sandy beaches, it's no surprise that Jamaica has long been a firm favourite with holidaymakers.

There are heaps of adventures for intrepid explorers to discover too from the spectacular Blue Lagoon to James Bond filming locations that can be found around the island (a fitting spot considering author Ian Fleming spent time in Jamaica!).

It's worth noting that the country ends to be a popular winter sun destination. Although you can still get some great weather in April and May, from June the Caribbean islands face hurricane seasons.
