Prime Minister Andrew Holness has issued a warning that Jamaica may still face severe impacts from Hurricane Beryl. During a news briefing on Wednesday, Holness expressed concerns about the potential effects of the storm on coastal infrastructure and flooding. He mentioned that further reports on the storm's impact are expected tonight and assured that emergency response efforts will be provided to affected areas.
Despite the intensity of the storm, there have been no reports of fatalities linked to Hurricane Beryl. Holness acknowledged that resources are limited but emphasized that the authorities are well-equipped with experience and training in disaster response to address any shortcomings.
Currently, close to 500 individuals have sought refuge in shelters across the country. The prime minister urged the public to remain vigilant and stay in safe locations until an official all-clear signal is issued.
