Jakub Kiwior responds as Arsenal close in on Jurrien Timber transfer

Arsenal defender Jakub Kiwior has welcomed the possibility of Ajax defender Jurrien Timber moving to the club this summer.

Standard Sport understands the Gunners are in advanced talks with Ajax over a move for the 22-year-old, having already seen a £30m offer rejected.

The Amsterdam giants are holding out for £50m but there is hope an agreement can be reached for around £40m.

Sources in Holland suggest the Dutch international has verbally agreed a five-year contract and Timber is believed to favour a move to Arsenal despite interest from Bayern Munich among others.

Timber would offer manager Mikel Arteta cover at both right-back and in central defence, with the idea being that the 22-year-old could replicate the role of Oleksandr Zinchenko on the opposite flank.

Arsenal are thought to view Timber’s best position at right-back and hope he too could tuck into midfield.

Kiwior, who joined the club in January, has welcomed the idea of strengthening the squad this summer.

Speaking to Polish outlet Meczyki, the defender said: “It’s great that he’s joining.

“Let the best players play at Arsenal. Let’s win matches and win trophies together.”

Kai Havertz is putting the finishing touches to his £65m move from Chelsea, while Declan Rice remains a target despite fresh interest from Manchester City.
