The New England Patriots got shut out last Sunday in a 34-0 loss to the New Orleans Saints. It was a bit of a surprise to see how far the team has fallen.
One might surmise that former Patriots wide receiver Jakobi Meyers would celebrate the team’s downfall after failing to agree on an extension in free agency. But there’s obviously no hard feelings from the talented wideout the Patriots signed as an undrafted rookie back in 2019.
“Nah, if anything, it made me feel bad for them because like I said, I got a lot of friends, a lot of family over there,” Meyers said, per team-provided video, via NESN.com’s Jason Ounpraseuth. “So I want them to play their best ball. I want us to play our best ball. It’s really about inspiring kids and everybody else that’s watching. I’m gonna go out there and put my best foot forward, and I hope they do the same.”
Meyers signed with the Las Vegas Raiders this past offseason and is having a solid year. He has tallied 25 catches for 274 yards and three touchdowns. He is coming off a solid game against the Green Bay Packers where he recorded seven catches for 75 yards and a touchdown.
Meyers clearly still has a lot of connections within the Patriots organization and no ill-will towards the team. One has to wonder what kind of impact he would have had on a struggling Patriots’ wide receiver group still trying to find an identity.
