Jake Paul will insert $500,000 clause into contract for future Tommy Fury fight

Jake Paul wants Tommy Fury to put a guaranteed $500,000 in escrow if they reschedule their fight for a third time.

Paul and Fury have shared a long-term rivalry with the pair scheduled to settle their differences back in December. However Fury was forced to withdraw after suffering a broken rib in training.

Fury and Paul signed contracts to reschedule their meeting for a second time on August 6 in New York, but the fight has been shelved for a second time after Fury was banned from entering the US. Paul had claimed he is sick of Fury "wasting" his time after the fight failed to materialise once again. "If he is going to be realistic and his promoters want to put on the event I can just fly in and not have to worry about any of this s***," Paul told ESPN when asked about the possibility of trying to fight Fury for a third time.

"I am sick and tired of him wasting my time. For the next fight if we do fight I am putting in a clause where he has to put $500,000 clause in escrow and if he doesn't do the fight then I automatically get the money because I am sick of him wasting time. I have a staff of 25 people that I keep and he is wasting all of our time and it is annoying we are sick of it."

Fury was denied entry to the US which prevented him attending the planned launch press conference at Madison Square Garden. Paul gave Fury a deadline and highlighted his intention to move on, which saw the Briton plead with Paul to let him resolve the problem.

He also offered to face Fury in the UK providing his rival cut his purse to £500,000 to guarantee himself a purse of £15million to account for pay-per-view losses in the US. Fury rejected the offer which appeared to shut down any potentia l of the fight going ahead.

Paul decided to shelve the plans after reports indicated that Fury was yet to visit the US Embassy in a bid to salvage the fight. He will now instead face Hasim Rahman Jr who has a professional record of 12-1 in the sport. Former cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew believes Rahman Jr provides a harder test to Paul's credentials than Fury.

"Whatever his reasons for insisting on Rahman Jr, I’m massively impressed that Paul has taken this step because this is a significant step up from what he’s used to as he’s in there with an actual professional boxer," Bellew wrote for DAZN.

"This is a much harder fight than his original contest with Fury, and I’m trying to figure out why Paul has gone down this route. "The two fighters have sparred each other so they know each other well. I’m thinking that either Paul or his trainer believe they can exploit a Rahman weakness in a big way."
