Jake Paul says Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano will earn 'life-changing' millions from April super-fight

Amanda Serrano’s manager Jake Paul says the American fighter and Katie Taylor will take home ‘life-changing’ seven-figure payouts for their long-awaited showdown.

Taylor will put her undisputed titles on the line in what has been dubbed ‘the biggest fight in women’s boxing history’ at Madison Square Gardens in New York on April 30.

Paul negotiated with Taylor’s representatives Eddie Hearn and Brian Peters for a purse that will see both fighters paid in excess of a million euro plus a share of pay-per-views.

It’s a fight three years in the making after the bout originally scheduled for March 2020 was postponed due to Covid before Serrano withdrew over the size of the purse.

35-year-old Taylor and Serrano, 32, will have the setting and payouts they deserved as a women’s fight headlines the iconic boxing venue for the first time.

Youtuber Paul, who has an unbeaten 5-0 record in his own short boxing career, says the money will be life-changing for Serrano in particular.

“They’re getting paid in the seven figures, which is historic,” Paul told the MMA Hour on Youtube.

"It’s never happened for women: guaranteed seven figures, plus pay-per-view. Obviously it’s going to be a massive pay-per-view.

"This is life-changing for both girls and especially I know for Amanda Serrano, because I’ve heard her stories of how much she’s been getting paid since day one.

"That’s what initially sparked my desire to want to help her. How is (a seven-division champion) — you’re getting paid, like, $20,000? This is absurd.”

Social media influencer Paul, 25, has been credited with bringing a whole new audience to Serrano with his extensive online reach but he played down his role.

He said: “I owe all the credit to Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano for being two of the pound-for-pound greatest female fighters to have ever lived.

"They’ve been trying to put this fight on, I think they just needed that extra sauce.

"It’s all our efforts in getting this done and it’s what needed to happen for women’s boxing to progress it forward and get women paid more.

"It’s historic in many ways. I don’t want to take any credit.

"I think Amanda Serrano’s an amazing person and I’m willing to help her in any way possible, whether it’s being a friend or being a manager. I give them the credit.”

The fight is set to clash with the super-featherweight title bout between Oscar Valdez and Shakur Stevenson, which is set to be announced for Las Vegas the same night.

Speaking to Sporting News earlier this week, Hearn hit back at promoter Bob Arum’s claim that Valdez-Stevenson was the bigger fight.

The Englishman said: “This fight is so much bigger than Stevenson vs. Valdez. There’s another world out there to hardcore boxing fans.

“Stevenson vs. Valdez is an amazing fight, but we saw yesterday the biggest reaction to any fight apart from AJ and Canelo.

"This fight is above women’s boxing. It’s myself, it’s Jake Paul, it’s the girls, it’s global media, it’s Madison Square Garden. There’s so much more.

"So we’ll take them on. On the night, we’ll see where the media is at, where the global media is at, where more fans are in the arena. I’m telling you, this is a monster. A monster."
