Jake Paul responds to Liverpool losing Champions League final against Real Madrid

Jake Paul might claim to be an avid Liverpool fan, but that didn't stop him congratulating Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr for his game-winning goal in the Champions League final.

YouTube star turned boxer Paul has pledged his football allegiance to the Reds in recent weeks and was supporting the side in Friday night's Champions League final in Paris. Unfortunately for Paul's Liverpool, they were beaten 1-0 thanks to a second-half goal from Vinicius.

The game was Liverpool's to be won, with Liverpool having 24 shots on goal compared to Madrid's four by the time 90 minutes were up. There were ugly scenes outside the Stade De France before kick-off as thousands of fans were unable to enter the ground.

Paul reacted to the result by tweeting a photoshopped picture of him and the Real Madrid forward, captioned: "Hate the result but at least we lost to my brother [Vinicius Junior]," Paul wrote. "Congrats to the young Brazilian GOAT, Thibaut Courtois & the rest of Los Blancos."

Paul has previously admitted that he isn't a football fan but struck an unlikely friendship with Vinicius after the Brazilian supported him in his boxing journey. 'The Problem Child' said the pair often share words of encouragement on Instagram.

"I don't follow [football] at all," Paul told talkSPORT. "I mostly follow the players, but that's about it. Vinicius Jr, that's my guy. We both support each other. He DMs me whenever I knock someone out. He's been killing it."

Football fans have since reacted to Paul congratulating Madrid on their win with some users attacking his support of Liverpool. One wrote: "You can’t call yourself a Liverpool fan after this tweet," with another adding: "I guarantee you he’s going to support Real Madrid now

Other users mocked Paul's boxing career in the replies, as one put: "Not a boxer, way smaller, far lighter. Is he your next boxing opponent?" With another commenting: "Stop talking about this sport and keep fighting non-boxers for easy wins."

Paul is looking to book his first fight of the calendar year having not fought since knocking out ex-UFC champion Tyron Woodley in their rematch last December.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a fight against former UFC star Anderson Silva and boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. Silva set up a fight against Paul by knocking out Bruno Machado on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather's latest exhibition bout earlier this month.
