Jake Paul channeled his inner Canelo Alvarez by copying the Mexican's "payday" catchphrase at the press conference for his boxing fight with Anderson Silva.
Paul is set to take to the ring in his sixth professional outing when he tackles the challenge of UFC legend Anderson Silva on October 29 in Arizona. The YouTube star will be hoping he can navigate arguably the sternest examination of his boxing credentials to set up fights with other high-profile targets including YouTube rival KSI and Nate Diaz.
Paul held a second press conference with Silva last night as they begin to prepare for their boxing match next month. During the event, UFC legend Chael Sonnen asked Paul how he felt that fans had began to request him to take certain match-ups, despite initially receiving a frosty reception upon his arrival in the sport.
Paul responded "Payday, payday, they want payday" in a slow voice appearing to mock that of Alvarez who frequently uses the catchphrase when discussing challenges that he has received, including most recently from UFC fighter Kamaru Usman. He then continued to explain: "But that is the name of the game and people want to see me lose.
"That is what I have built my career from. I get the hate but I have had to establish myself and work hard in the gym. I have been fortunate as I went to the doctors and they said I had an enlarged moose knuckle for a fist. I just have been knocking everyone out and it might be scientific because of the way I have been born."
Alvarez has also been using the term frequently when called out by the likes of David Benavidez and Jermall Charlo who both want to fight him, by urging them to forget about a "payday" and fight each other. Paul has frequently mocked Alvarez throughout his career and has for months launched a pursuit of a fight with the Mexican..

The undisputed 168lb champion has not yet dismissed Paul's challenge as a "payday" and is currently focused on his trilogy bout with Gennady Golovkin, but has refused to rule out a future fight. Despite Alvarez's pedigree in the sport, Paul believes he can defeat A;varez and was quick to mock his new rival for his defeat to Dmitry Bivol back in May.
And Paul believes a potential showdown with Alvarez would be perfect to bring down the curtain on his fighting career in years to come. "I would take the fight, right now I couldn't beat Canelo, five fights from now or six fights from now, I could put up a f***ing awesome fight and we'll see what happens," he told The Journey.
"I want me vs Canelo to be my last fight, it could happen three or four years from now but it just makes sense, the two biggest names, the two highest-paid boxers in the sport going at it, why not?"
