Jake Paul doubts Conor McGregor's Katie Taylor Croke Park offer as Eddie Hearn set to jet in for talks

Jake Paul hopes that Conor McGregor is serious about helping with costs to stage a massive Katie Taylor homecoming at Croke Park, but the American has his doubts.

McGregor has offered to sponsor the event through his Proper 12 whiskey to help with the cost of renting the venue and paying for security.

Taylor is set to fight Amanda Serrano in a rematch in Dublin on May 20, but it still remains unclear which venue between Croke Park and the 3Arena will stage the event.

The Bray fighter's promoter Eddie Hearn is set to fly to Dublin on Monday to meet with McGregor, but YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul, who promotes Serrano, claims the UFC star's offer "might have just been a drunken tweet".

“I think it's great but behind the scenes I don't know if there's been any progress with him actually doing that," Paul told the Daily Mail. "I think it's awesome that he would want to do that, and it only makes the fight bigger if he gets involved on Katie Taylor's side, rooting for her. I think it might have just been a drunken tweet of his that he likes to do, but hopefully he was being serious."

Matchroom chief Hearn is flying to the capital for discussions with McGregor to fill a €700,000 gap in bringing Taylor’s rematch with Amanda Serrano to GAA HQ.

He said: “I spoke to him a few times and I will be flying out to see him on Monday. Our date is May 20 which is immovable because it’s built around the DAZN schedule.”

He added: “On Monday I’m hoping to fly into Ireland, to the Black Forge. We have been communicating on Twitter messages. I noticed he followed me on Twitter and I saw his tweet that he wants to make it happen. He loves Katie Taylor and he would love to help get it at Croke Park.

“I haven’t given up but there is probably a 6 or €700,000 deficit of where we need to be. Maybe he can fill that. But it’s not a publicity stunt, I think he feels like it would be cool to be a part of that.”
