Jake Paul criticised for trying to "steal the show" after Katie Taylor victory

Jake Paul has been accused of trying to "steal the show" from Katie Taylor after her victory in her title defence against Amanda Serrano.

Taylor and Serrano shared the ring in an epic battle at Madison Square Garden last weekend with Taylor prevailing via narrow split-decision. Serrano was represented by manager Paul who was ringside for the event, and he jumped in the ring at the end of the classic encounter to criticise the decision to award Taylor the victory.

And Ricky Hatton has criticised the actions of the YouTube star on social media, posting on Instagram : “OMG. What a fight. @katie_t86 & @serranosisters Inspirational girls. #historymakers. I see the YouTuber tried to steal the show? Trust me he didn’t. After that fight to say I made the fight & Katie Taylor’s full of s***??? #n**head.”

Paul was unhappy with the marginal decision but the Puerto Rican gracefully accepting the defeat before calling out her rival to a rematch later this year. The YouTube star instead opted to use punch statistics on his social media in a bid to prove Serrano was hard done-by to lose out in Las Vegas.

"Amanda Serrano out landed Katie Taylor in landed punches both to the body and head. Men lie. Women lie. Numbers don’t," Paul wrote with an attached screenshot of Serrano landing more punches than Taylor in six of the rounds throughout the meeting.

He added after the fight: "I was sitting next to Eddie [Hearn] during the fight, Paul said. "We were both scoring the fight together as the rounds went on. We both were sitting there and said to each other 'this needs to be three minute rounds next time'. Everyone wants to see a rematch, they came to New York City so if there is a rematch I think it makes sense to go to Ireland."

Paul was heavily involved during the fight week initially agreeing a $1million wager with his co-promoter Eddie Hearn over the outcome of the fight. He also came face-to-face with Hearn as the pair sat down together during a face-off with attention no doubt on the high-profile pairing.

Taylor was delighted with her latest victory and showed a resolute attitude after nearly being stopped herself earlier in the fight. The Irish star had hit out at Paul in the build-up claiming he "knows nothing" about being involved in a fight of it's magnitude.

However the 25-year-old quickly responded accusing the history-maker of "talking s***". "Katie I appreciate you thanking me for making this fight happen at a level Eddie never could," he tweeted in response to her interview.

"But the only thing real is you, your team and Eddie talk a lot of s*** but can’t back it up. Respect on your legacy. But Amanda Serrano is the greatest female boxer of all time."
