Jake Doyle-Hayes believes Hibs can catch Hearts after Ross County double cut Premiership gap

Jake Doyle-Hayes believes Hibs can catch Hearts after Saturday's win over Ross County closed the gap to nine points.

The Irishman struck twice - his second a brilliant volley after controlling the ball on his chest - to win the game for Shaun Maloney's men at Easter Road.

The Jambos 2-1 defeat at St Johnstone meant all three points for the Hibees got the difference in the Premiership table down to single figures.

Doyle-Hayes insists they aren't just focusing on where they are in relation to their neighbours, but refused to rule out a third place finish as a possibility.

He said: "Can we close the gap on Hearts? We believe we can.

"We need to keep looking up the way but we won’t target one team, we just want to finish as high as we can.

"We know what it means to the fans and everyone connected to the club, so we are going to keep pushing as much as we can."

A decent strike in the 50th minute was his first for Hibs and was followed up by an exquisite effort 12 minutes from time.

Doyle-Hayes added: "I don’t think it would be too hard to say they were the best goals of my career, I haven’t got that many.

"I genuinely don’t know where the goals came from. Sometimes I need to let it go and have a pop.

"After the first one every time I touched the ball the crowd were shouting for me to shoot - even when I was on the halfway line.

"That’s why I thought I would have a go with the second one and it wasn’t a bad finish. Thankfully it came off.

"People have said to me that I should have more shots on goal. It’s been friends, family and even some members of staff.

"I had my fiancee in the stand and 27 boys from Ireland over for the game. So it was good to score in front of all of them.

"They had some time off so they all wanted to come over and see me.

"If I score like that I might need to get them back next week."
