British actress Jaime Winstone has revealed the late Dame Barbara Windsor sent her "a few signs" from beyond the grave.
Jaime, 37, has stepped into the iconic actress' shoes once again to play the role of Peggy Mitchell in a one off flashback episode of EastEnders which will air on September 5.
Viewers will remember that mother-of-one Jaime played Barbara in the 2017 biopic Babs, which aired on BBC One.
Appearing on Thursday's This Morning, Jaime spoke to hosts Ruth Langsford and Rylan Clarke about how honoured she was to take on the role of pub landlord Peggy Mitchell.
"I got to sort of implement all the stuff I had personally with Barbara. I got to see her at home and sit round a piano and sing with her," Jaime explained.
"She was so gorgeous in the way that she was so generous with her time and always give you so much time and energy, so yeah, this has been an amazing journey for me."
Asked if she had jumped at the chance to play Peggy, Jaime admitted: “It was scary. I had to think about it properly, I had a deep chat with my agents about it but when it’s an opportunity like this - Peggy Mithchell - the landlady of our nation - it's an honour, it really is an honour for me."
Referring to Peggy, she said: "She's such a tough mum and she really believed in her boys and that deep protection. And you know I got a lot of that from Barbara myself, I put a lot of that into it, and once I put that wig on... that was it."
Jaime then revealed: "I did sort of speak to her and say, 'is this the right thing for me? Am I allowed to do it?' And I had a few signs."
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV and ITV Hub.
