Jailed Lanarkshire doctor faces losing medical licence after sexually abusing dozens of patients

A shamed doctor who sexually assaulted dozens of female patients faces being struck off the medical register.

Krishna Singh, 72, subjected 48 women to kissing, groping, inappropriate examinations and sleazy comments during appointments in the course of his 35 year career. His targets included a rape victim, teenage children and pregnant women.

He was sentenced to 12 years in prison for his crimes at the High Court in Glasgow after being found guilty of 54 charges in April following a two-month trial.

The offences, which spanned from February 1983 to May 2018, mainly occurred at medical practices in North Lanarkshire, but also at a hospital accident and emergency department, a police station and during visits to patients' homes.

A hearing date has now been set by the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) for January 4, 2023, finishing on January 6.

The MPTS is in charge decisions regarding whether medical practitioners are fit to practise medicine and can remove members from the medical register.

The pre-hearing statement reads: "The tribunal will inquire into the allegation that on 14 April 2022 at Glasgow High Court Dr Singh was convicted twenty-five charges of indecent assault, twenty-four charges of sexual, one charge of attempted sexual assault and four charges of indecent and libidinous practices and behaviour directed towards girls under the age of 16 years.

"It is also alleged that on 25 May 2022 Dr Singh was sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment."
