Jahlani Tavai has strong response to booing Patriots fans

New England Patriots linebacker Jahlani Tavai had an interesting response to fans booing and calling for coach Jerod Mayo to be fired. He elaborated on his point of view on WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show” on Friday.

“I don’t know. There’s a reason why they’re fans,” said Tavai, as transcribed by ESPN’s Mike Reiss. “Everybody can say what they think that we should be doing. In the long end, they’re not qualified to do what Mayo is doing, or whatever the Pats are doing.

“The fans, I appreciate them at times, but sometimes they just have to know their place and just understand that it’s a work in progress. Rome wasn’t built in one day.”

Tavai has been a key part of the Patriots defense this season. He has recorded 111 total tackles, a sack and an interception on the year.

Frustrations are obviously high with the team experiencing another losing season. It can’t feel good for the team to get booed by their own fan base, but then again, the product on the field hasn’t given fans much to cheer about.

Time will tell if there will be changes for the Patriots in 2025. It’s clear that the team is not functioning well on multiple levels and needs a reset in some fashion. One has to wonder what changes will be made moving forward.
