The 2023 season could be big for Washington Commanders wide receiver Jahan Dotson. Many believe that Dotson could be Washington’s breakout performer this season after leading the team in touchdowns as a rookie.
But for Dotson to have that breakout season, he needs consistent quarterback play. In speaking this offseason, Dotson has made it clear that he believes Sam Howell is the guy for the Commanders.
In a recent chat with Washington legends London Fletcher and Fred Smoot of commanders.com, Smoot asked Dotson to give everyone insight on Howell.
“He’s a special talent, I truly believe it,” Dotson says of Howell. “I always tell people he makes every throw on the field look so easy. He makes it look effortless. His arm talent is insane, and he’s just getting better. He’s getting smarter [with the offensive scheme] every single day, and he’s getting more comfortable with us. I feel like once he gets comfortable with everyone, the sky’s the limit.”
Dotson and Howell entered the NFL together in the 2022 NFL draft. Often, when a receiver and quarterback are a part of the same draft class, there’s always a special chemistry. When Howell started in Week 18 vs. Dallas last season, Dotson caught three passes for 72 yards, and the pair looked comfortable working together.
Washington’s belief in Howell may shock some on the outside, but everyone in Ashburn is confident that Howell can be the guy in 2023 and beyond.
The connection between 14 and 1 is going to be special 💥
