The Jacksonville Jaguars waived third-string quarterback Nathan Rourke for the third time this season with Trevor Lawrence’s status due to an ankle injury no longer in doubt.
Rourke, a former Canadian Football League star, was first waived after an impressive preseason and was added back to the team on the practice squad. He was later signed to the active roster in October when Lawrence was questionable for a game against the New Orleans Saints due to a knee injury. Rourke was waived days after the game.
The Jaguars once again signed Rourke to the active roster last week with Lawrence questionable due to a high ankle sprain. The Jaguars’ starter played through that injury as well and Rourke will likely go back to the practice squad if he clears waivers.
Teams are also allowed to temporarily elevate a player to the active roster for a game, but those players are ineligible to be designated as an emergency third quarterback. Rourke filled that role in each of the two games he spent on the active roster and never entered either game.
Prior to his time with the Jaguars, Rourke threw for 3,349 passing yards and 25 touchdowns with 10 interceptions in his final season with the CFL’s B.C. Lions.
