Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence exited Monday’s game against the Bengals with a concerning ankle injury after going down following a sack. He did not return to the game.
After the loss, Jacksonville head coach Doug Pederson told reporters he did not have an update on Lawrence’s status.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, initial tests indicated the star quarterback sustained a sprained ankle. Schefter reports that Lawrence will undergo further testing on the ankle in order to determine how long he’ll be sidelined.
On the play in which Lawrence sustained the injury, he could be seen falling awkwardly on the ankle after getting sacked. His ankle was also stepped on during the play.
Lawrence attempted to stand up after the play, but was overcome with pain and went back down to the ground. He then threw his helmet in frustration. The quarterback hobbled off the field with assistance from trainers before being led to the locker room, all the while not putting weight on the injured ankle.
According to Cameron Wolfe of the NFL Network, Lawrence was using crutches in the locker room and wore a walking boot.
Prior to his injury, Lawrence had completed 22-of-29 pass attempts for 258 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for a score. C.J. Beathard entered the game in relief of Lawrence, but was unable to lead the team to a win, as the Jaguars lost 34–31 in overtime.
Lawrence’s status remains uncertain for Jacksonville’s Week 14 clash on the road against the Browns, though more clarity should come later in the week after he undergoes further tests.
