In a recent mock draft from our friends over at Draft Wire, Jeff Risdon has the Jacksonville Jaguars going in a different direction with their fifth overall pick.
In many mock drafts up to this point, we’ve seen the Jaguars address the defensive side of the ball, taking either Michigan cornerback Will Johnson or Michigan defensive tackle Mason Graham.
But Risdon decided to go with help on offense, specifically bolstering the offensive line with LSU tackle Will Campbell.
“Picking Campbell is a presumption that the new head man will want to build around Trevor Lawrence,” wrote Risdon. “The Jaguars are painfully thin at OT, and Campbell is the most NFL-ready in an odd tackle class.”
Campbell played over 2,500 career snaps in his three college seasons, most of which have come at left tackle, which included giving up only four total sacks during that span. He’s also steadily graded out as a good run-blocker by PFF’s metrics as well.
Kyle Crabbs of the 33rd Football team does view Campbell as a potential interior lineman at the NFL level as well.
“Campbell appears to be a scheme-versatile option on the interior,” wrote Crabbs. “He has the lateral mobility and foot speed to play zone schemes and the power and vertical push to be a strong presence on an interior run-heavy scheme.”
Returning tackles for the Jaguars in 2025 that saw at least somewhat regular playing time include Anton Harrison, Walker Little, and Cole Van Lanen.
As the Jaguars’ offense looks to become less “predictable” in 2025, quarterback Trevor Lawrence says a key component to that is being better in the run game, which will help keep the offense out of obvious passing situations and open up the playbook for them.
