Are the Jacksonville Jaguars still in the mix for Lions’ offensive coordinator Ben Johnson to fill their head coaching opening? One NFL insider thinks so.
Fox Sports NFL insider Jordan Schultz was on ‘The Herd’ recently and had this say about Johnson:
“I’m not willing to go so far as to say that Ben Johnson is the favorite with the Raiders,” Schultz said. “I know the Raiders really like him. I know that he has multiple options, including Jacksonville, which is a really good job, and the Bears.”
Schultz would say that the Raiders are certainly in the mix and that Tom Brady’s presence in that organization is a “big factor.” However, Schultz would add that the Raiders, compared to the Jaguars and Bears, don’t have the quarterback position figured out and “they do not have the roster” that Jacksonville and Chicago do.
There’s been a lot of smoke recently about Johnson ending up with the Raiders. NFL Network’s Peter Schrager would say that Johnson to Las Vegas is “picking up way more steam” in league circles, while Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review that Johnson to the Raiders has “a lot of momentum building.”
Johnson was the leader being the NFL’s top scoring offense in football this season. Not surprisingly, he–along with Lions’ defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn–are “very high up” for the Jaguars in their head coaching search, according to Ian Rapoport.
