The Jacksonville Jaguars have made another addition to their defensive coaching staff under new defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile.
According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, coming with Campanile from Green Bay is Anthony Perkins, who was a defensive quality control coach for the Packers in 2024.
Green Bay’s defensive backs finished last year with the third-most interceptions, they ranked 15th in yards per pass attempt, 25th in completion rate, and ninth in passer rating, according to Pro Football Reference.
The 2024 season was Perkins’ first with the Packers. Before that, he was the Oregon State co-defensive coordinator for two seasons.
According to the Oregon State team site, the Beavers 63 passes defensed, which included 12 interceptions, were among the most in the PAC-12. Their 71 passes defended in 2022 were the 13th-most nationally.
Individually, eight defensive backs under Perkins earned All-Conference honors.
Perkins coaching background is rooted in the secondary and he will now be tasked with helping to turn this Jaguars pass defense around.
Last season, the Jaguars ranked 24th in completion rate and were 30th or worse in passer rating, yards per pass allowed, and interceptions.
Perkins joins linebackers coach Tem Lukabu and defensive line coach Matt Edwards on Campanile’s coaching staff. Unless Campanile is going to add an outside linebackers coach, it looks like the Jaguars will be running a 4-3 scheme under Campanile.
