The Jacksonville Jaguars will be retaining a key member of their offensive coaching staff under new head coach Liam Coen.
According to Ian Rapoport, tight ends coach Richard Angulo is signing a multi-year deal to remain with the Jaguars. Rapoport added that the Detroit Lions were another team showing interest in Angulo.
Angulo has been the Jaguars tight ends coach since the 2022 season. Before that, he was in Baltimore’s organization for several years, working as the tight ends coach for two years and then as the assistant offensive line coach for five seasons prior to joining the Jaguars.
During Angulo’s tenure with Jacksonville, tight end Evan Engram has played a prominent role in the passing game, which includes nearly eclipsing the 1,000 yard mark during the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
Brenton Strange, meanwhile, took a big step forward in his second NFL season in 2024 as a pass catcher, while Luke Farrell improved significantly as a blocker, according to PFF’s metrics.
The tight end position will have to be addressed this offseason by Jacksonville. At a minimum, more depth is needed, but a recent mock draft from NFL.com did have the Jaguars adding to the position with the fifth overall pick.
Coen is still in the process of building out the rest of his offensive staff. There is a reported front-runner for the offensive coordinator opening and the Jaguars have interviewed several offensive line coach candidates.
