Jacksonville Jaguars’ special teams coach Heath Farwell will reportedly be returning for the 2025 season under new head coach Liam Coen, according to Gene Frenette of the Florida Times-Union.
Frenette would add that Farwell signed his contract extension on Monday. However, the future of assistant special teams coach Luke Thompson is still up in the air.
Farwell has been the Jaguars’ special teams coordinator since the 2022 season. Before that, he was the special teams coordinator with the Buffalo Bills from 2019-2021.
In Farwell’s first season at the helm of the Jacksonville special teams unit in 2022, the Jaguars ranked 19th in special teams play, according to PFF’s grading system.
In the two years since, the Jaguars’ have continued to ascend, finishing the 2023 season ranked ninth and this past season ranked sixth.
Individually, the Jaguars have had several of their special teams player get Pro Bowl nods under Farwell, along with punter Logan Cooke and long-snapper Ross Matiscik earning All-Pro honors as well.
While the special teams coordinator role remains filled for the Jaguars, Coen is on the search for new offensive and defensive coordinators.
The Jaguars announced on Monday that they completed an interview with Minnesota passing game coordinator Daronte Jones for their defensive coordinator opening.
Two potential names of interest for offensive coordinator could be Chip Kelly and Grant Udinski–although there aren’t any official reports at this time that the Jaguars are pursuing either candidate.
