The Jacksonville Jaguars continue to cast a wide net when it comes to the search for their next general manager.
According to Ian Rapoport, the Jaguars have now requested to interview the San Francisco 49ers’ Director of Scouting and Football Operations Josh Williams.
Williams has been in the 49ers’ organization for the last 14 seasons and has a scouting background, having worked on both the college and pro sides of the scouting department.
In his current role, which he was promoted to last offseason, Williams has worked closely with 49ers’ general manager John Lynch and “directs pro and college scouting efforts, supports player development, and assists in contract negotiations,” according to the 49ers website.
Williams is now the seventh interview request that the Jaguars have made for their general manager opening–although Tampa Bay’s assistant general manager Mike Greenberg has withdrawn from consideration.
Communication and alignment between the head coach and general manager roles will be important factors in determining who the next GM of the Jaguars is.
“With the front office, how do we continue to build there and get this thing fully in alignment so that then when we go into the offseason program, we’re all on the same page, we all understand the vision and the goal.”
