The Jacksonville Jaguars have requested to interview San Francisco 49ers’ assistant offensive line coach Cam Clemmons for their offensive line coaching position, according to Jordan Schultz.
The Jaguars have been active attempting to fill this role. They’ve also requested to interview Buffalo’s assistant offensive line coach and have been denied two interview requests by Tampa Bay.
The 2024 season was Clemmons first with the 49ers. Prior to that, he was the Las Vegas Raiders assistant offensive line coach from 2021-2023 and the offensive quality control coach in 2020.
Last season, the 49ers’ offensive line unit ranked eighth in pressure rate allowed and were seventh in yards per carry in the run game with 4.7.
While at the top of the to-do list for Jaguars’ head coach Liam Coen is getting Trevor Lawrence back on track, a key factor in accomplishing that is improved offensive line play.
Time in the pocket is a must for any quarterback, and having a strong running game to lean can open up opportunities in the passing game and help make the offense as a whole less predictable.
“I think we would all agree that it needs to improve,” said Coen of the offensive line. I think that when you look at, first and foremost, the offensive side of the ball, you want that unit and that group–it’s the first thing that when you break the huddle the defense sees,” added Coen. “I want that to mean something. We want that to mean something and it will.
“That’s a mentality, that’s personnel, that’s scheme, that’s technique, that’s fundamentals, and that’s attitude. That’s something that we need to make sure we instill.”
