The Jacksonville Jaguars aren’t interested in another spending spree in free agency, but that doesn’t mean the team is ignoring the market altogether.
According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 in Houston, the Jaguars are one of three teams — along with the New York Giants and Carolina Panthers — that have shown interest in veteran cornerback Tavierre Thomas of the Houston Texans.
Thomas, 27, began his career as an undrafted free agent with the Arizona Cardinals, but was waived by the team at the end of training camp in his rookie year. He picked up his career with the Cleveland Browns, appearing in 45 games over three seasons with the team.
In 2021, Thomas joined the Texans on a cheap two-year, $4 million deal and outplayed that contract, starting 14 games with the team.
Across two seasons in Houston, Thomas was targeted 67 times by opposing quarterbacks and allowed 40 receptions for 277 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. He finished the 2021 season with the fourth best grade on the Texans’ defense on Pro Football Focus, and the fifth best grade in 2022.
Earlier in the offseason, the Jaguars cut ties with cornerback Shaquill Griffin. While the team has a cornerstone player on defense in Tyson Campbell, there was instability on the other side until Darious Williams took over on the outside late in the season.
