It’ll be the return of the Mac on Sunday with Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Mac Jones set to make his first NFL start since being traded by the New England Patriots.
Trevor Lawrence, who was initially listed as questionable with a shoulder injury, was officially ruled out on Saturday. That’ll pave the way for Jones to step back into the role of an NFL starter against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 10.
Jones had a solid training camp and preseason to win the top backup job in Jacksonville. Some even speculated that other quarterback-needy teams might even attempt to trade for Jones ahead of the deadline.
The Patriots traded the former first-round pick of the 2021 NFL draft to the Jaguars for a sixth-round draft pick in the offseason. Jones’ run in New England was a total bust mostly due to the failed infrastructure around him.
There was a new offensive coordinator in place every season, and he was forced to play behind a bad offensive line with limited weapons. Granted, Jones had his role in the situation as well. He was far too inconsistent under center, and turnovers became a constant issue.
We’ll see if a change of scenery makes a difference in the once-promising young quarterback’s career.
